These floors use a quick-curing polyurea (or polyaspartic) as both the direct-to-concrete primer coat and top coat. They’re excellent topcoats, but lousy primers, especially in the presence of concrete moisture. One-day installers use them as primers because they cure so quickly, allowing the installation can get done in the promised “one day”. But they cure so quickly in the presence of moisture, there’s simply not enough time for them to deeply penetrate and properly bond with the concrete substrate.
The thin, poorly-penetrating polyurea-polyaspartic primer is susceptible to hydrostatic pressure (from moisture wicking up in the concrete), leading to bubbling and peeling over time. One-day installs may save time, but they sacrifice long-term durability.
